APLD Spotlight » Barbara Simon

Thoughtful, innovative solutions for your landscape best describes what Barbara Simon, APLD, brings to her clients. Many considerations enter into generating a landscape design. Those considerations include: the clients’ dreams & budget, a hefty respect for the environment, architecture, the site’s particularities and a strong commitment to beauty. She has been designing gardens since 2001.

Steeped in the arts and nature, Barbara spends her time away from the drafting table stewarding her property above the Klickitat River, playing the cello, attending theater/museum/contemporary dance, traveling to foreign destinations (including one unforgettable tour of gardens in Kyoto), gardening, cooking and recently, grandparenting.

Barbara is APLD certified. In 2016, she received an APLD Chapter Service Award. She served as the APLD Oregon Chapter co-President in 2015. Her work has been featured in publications including Sunset Magazine (Backyard in the Wild’ garden/Northwest Style – October 2007).

Barbara believes collaborations result in the best gardens. Simplicity is her motto.

The following are a sampling of her work, showing her characteristic creativity, elegant sense of proportion, and eye for detail:
